Preparing the Ground for Your Shed
Your shed will outlast your patio — but only if it's sitting on solid, level ground. Here's how we recommend prepping your site.
Gravel pad (recommended)
4–6 inches of compacted gravel, 1 ft wider than the shed footprint on each side. Drains well, levels easily, and lasts decades.
Concrete blocks
Acceptable for smaller buildings on flat sites. Use solid blocks under each skid every 4 ft.
Skids on grass (not recommended)
Looks easy now, expensive later — buildings settle unevenly and doors stop closing right within a year.
